\"\"<\/a>Do Widzenia, Krakow! \u00a0I think <\/i>that means good-bye. \u00a0We’ve had a good visit, seen lots of wonderful buildings, learned tonnes of history, tasted new foods, and even had a chance to have a bit of a rest, but now it’s time to move on.<\/p>\n

Despite the heaviness of visiting Auschwitz – Birkenau the other day, our evening ended with a positive note. \u00a0There is a part of me that feels guilty for having so much – a safe place to live, a warm home, good food, wonderful friends and family. It probably should stop me from living the life I live. \u00a0Perhaps that guilt should make me give up the wealth that I have and give more to others. \u00a0Sadly, I am not that altruistic. \u00a0I will try to do my part – try to educate and give back , donate to charities and guide future generations toward a brighter tomorrow, but I’m afraid I’m still too selfish to say goodbye to my rich life.<\/p>\n

Last night, we went back to Old Town and had another lovely Polish supper. \u00a0I don’t have a very cultured palate, and I’m not that brave when it comes to trying new foods, but, that is part of this journey. \u00a0We want to experience life in all forms – visit new countries, learn new customs, and try new food.<\/p>\n

Now, I know <\/i>my selection may not be too bold for some of you, but for me, it was quite a stretch! \u00a0I ordered duck\u00a0?\u00a0with apples and Shawn had pork ?\u00a0knuckle with sauerkraut. \u00a0I know… I know… not too wild and crazy, but everyone has to start somewhere! \u00a0It was delicious!<\/p>\n

The night ended with yet another new dessert – sweet perogies. \u00a0Now, I’ve had Russian vatrushki (although that’s not what Shawn’s family called them – sorry! \u00a0I can’t remember the correct name or spelling – vereniky?) \u00a0They are a baked, crispy-doughed perogy filled with fruit, and they are DELICIOUS! But, these ones were the same as the savoury Polish perogies – soft, boiled dough. \u00a0The fillings were good – we had strawberry, plum (which I think were cherry), and cottage cheese with cinnamon and sugar (the texture was definitely different with these ones!). \u00a0They were all covered with sweet cream. \u00a0I think Shawn’s mom may have loved them! \u00a0Me… well.. maybe it’s an acquired taste. ; )<\/p>\n

Tomorrow, we’re off to Prague by bus and train – a longer journey – all the more time to imagine the new food adventures that await us there! ?\u00a0Yum! ?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
