Shawn and I have been married for thirty-three years, but I’ve known and loved him for many more. I started following him around when I was thirteen- semi-stalking him, riding by his house on my bike, phoning and hanging up. Eleven years later, we were married, and now he’s willing to take a leave from his job and follow me on what is now OUR dream trip.
We are so lucky to have our son, Keenan, waiting to greet us in Japan. Hopefully, we can last that long on the road, and see him and Nao, his lovely girlfriend, in time for Sakura no kisetsu – cherry blossom time in May.
We have the support of so many people – our extended family and wonderful friends, and we know we need to make this journey while we can. Life can be short, and as we get older, we see so many people disappear from this earth without fulfilling their dreams.
We have to give this journey a try. If we don’t love it, we can come home, but if we don’t take this leap, we’ll never know if we could’ve made it.
